After a successful career in complex commercial litigation as well as securities and consumer class action cases resulting in cumulative settlements in excess of $1 billion dollars, Sherif made his initial foray into government work by spending over two years working for the New York City Department of Education Office of General Counsel as an Agency Attorney. After these two plus years of negotiating, litigating, and generally resolving cases filed by parents under the IDEA, and becoming a first time parent himself, he returned to private practice where he worked at two separate law firms to put his skills to use in advocating for families with children with special needs.
Sherif’s practice focuses on all aspects of litigating cases and he particularly enjoys legal writing, research, and most of all, representing families at hearings.
Sherif is a 1999 graduate of the Duke University School of Law, where he was the recipient of the J. Paul Coie Fellowship Endowment for the Study of Jurisprudence and Law. He also holds a master’s degree in Philosophy from Duke University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Fordham University, where he studied as a Dean’s Scholar. He is admitted to practice law in New York, New York’s Southern District, and Connecticut (admission pending in New Jersey).
Sherif is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business (City University of New York) and Adjunct Lecturer in Philosophy at the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, is fluent in Arabic, serves on his coop board in midtown Manhattan, is a Board Member with the philanthropic charity Shoe4Africa an organization that builds children’s hospitals in Africa, does volunteer pro bono legal work for the Safe Passage Project, where he represents refugee and immigrant children who face deportation back to life-threatening situations, is active in voter rights causes including the New York Democratic Lawyers Council and has completed the New York City Marathon 15 times and over 135 New York Road Runners races.
